Texas Mike Apologizes for Actions Following Supposed High Stakes Poker Nit-roll

Michael “Texas Mike” Moncek apologized for his actions following a record $4.26 million pot he lost Monday on High Stakes Poker.

The two-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner got into it a bit with Eric Wasserson, the winner of the hand. But Moncek, who doesn’t have a reputation of berating opponents or going on tilt after big losses, felt he was out of line even though most poker fans on social media weren’t critical of his behavior.

Some poker fans, however, felt Wasserson, who rivered a nine-high flush in the High Stakes Poker record-setting pot, “nit-rolled” Texas Mike by going into the tank with a big hand after facing a seven-figure all-in bet.

What Happened After the Hand?

Seconds after Wasserson made the call, a tilted Texas Mike told his opponent, “maybe the biggest nit-roll of all time,” to which Wass responded, “I said immediately I have a huge hand. I never played a pot that big before.”

Moncek had just 10-high on a board of 9♣K♦A♦4♥5♦ with $1,046,000 in the pot after betting the flop and turn. He had a bigger stack than Wasserson, who had 9♦7♦ and $1.6 million heading to the river. Moncek couldn’t let such as massive pot go without a fight, so he put his opponent all in, a move that would have worked if a diamond hadn’t hit on the river.

Wasserson went into a two-minute tank, and he didn’t stay silent. He appeared genuinely concerned it was possible he was up against a stronger flush, the only hand that could beat him.

“Just give me a second. I don’t think I can really fold, but…” Wasserson said as he pondered his decision to call or fold.

A call, as expected by anyone watching, was eventually made, leading Wasserson to take down a pot worth $4,260,000, the largest pot ever on High Stakes Poker. Texas Mike immediately accused Wasserson of nit-rolling him, and the bickering continued for a while, as he criticized Wasserson, who was up around $4 million at the time, of not bringing enough action to the game with a stack north of $5 million.

But the high-stakes player who bluffed off the seven-figure pot has since apologized on X. That apology was accepted by Wasserson, who responded, “You are my boy, I wasnt offended at all it was a completely normal reaction you have NOTHING to apologize for. Anyone saying differently has never really gambled for high stakes before.”

Wasserson went on to win $3.2 million over four sessions on the High Stakes Poker livestream this past weekend. Texas Mike rallied from a huge deficit to essentially break even for the week, thanks in large part to winning a $2.3 million pot against Andrew Robl right after losing the $4.2 million hand.
