African Poker Championship Debuts With $500K GTD

A new poker tour is ready to make its debut in Africa, with the African Poker Championship (APC) heading to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, for its inaugural festival later this month.

The first-ever APC stop takes place at Le Grande Casino from September 24 through October 4, with more than $500,000 in guarantees across an 11-day schedule headlined by the $1,000 APC Main Event.

Powered by MJPT Global, the APC has been created with ambitions of bringing together poker communities from across Africa, showcasing the continent’s talent and building events capable of attracting players from around the world.

And for the Hendon Mob flag chasers out there, Tanzania might be one you don’t want to miss. The APC’s debut offers the chance to add a Tanzanian flag to the résumé while getting in on the ground floor of Africa’s newest poker tour.

$200K Guaranteed in the APC Main Event

The $1,000 APC Main Event is the flagship tournament of the inaugural festival, carrying a $200,000 guarantee and running from September 30 through October 4.

There are three starting flights, beginning with Day 1A at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30. Day 1B follows at the same time on Thursday, with the final opportunity to advance coming on Friday afternoon.

Survivors return for Day 2 at noon on Saturday, October 3, before the first-ever APC Main Event champion is crowned on Sunday.

Players looking to get involved for less can also take their shot in the $125 APC Main Event Super Satellite on September 25.

Plenty More Than the Main Event

The Main Event accounts for a sizeable chunk of the money guaranteed in Dar es Salaam, but there are plenty of other big prizes to play for.

The $1,500 Grand Slam Mega Stack gets underway on September 25 and comes with a $100,000 guarantee, while the $300 APC DeepStack follows a day later with $50,000 guaranteed.

Those looking to step up the stakes can jump into the $2,000 Single Day Mini High Roller, which also carries a $50,000 guarantee.

The biggest buy-in of the festival arrives on September 27 with the $5,000 Super High Roller, before the two-day $3,000 APC High Roller kicks off on September 29 with another $100,000 guaranteed.

There’s plenty filling the gaps, too. The schedule features the three-flight PigaBet Survivor Bounty, along with Turbo, SuperStak and Pot-Limit Omaha action. The latter comes in the form of the $300 Le Grande Bomb Pots Double Board event on October 1.
