Washington Indian Gaming Association launches problem gambling awareness campaign

The Washington Indian Gaming Association (WIGA) has launched a statewide campaign with the goal of helping reduce problem gambling and connecting individuals and families with free, confidential support.

WIGA represents 24 federally recognized tribes across Washington. Its new campaign will run throughout September, which is Responsible Gaming Education Month, across connected TV, YouTube, social media, search and programmatic display advertising, as well as WIGA’s communication channels.

The initiative targets frequent gamblers and concerned family members and friends, while also seeking to reach youth and young adults exposed to betting through gaming and emerging platforms such as prediction markets.

“We’ve made real progress breaking down the stigma around many mental health issues, but that stigma can still be a barrier when it comes to problem gambling,” said Rebecca George, Executive Director of WIGA. “Bet on Your Self reminds people that hope and help are available, and that asking for help is a sign of strength.”

WIGA’s “Bet on Your Self” campaign builds on the association’s responsible gaming programme launched in 2021, with this year’s effort focused on reducing the stigma around seeking support for problem gambling.

WIGA said Washington tribes have long supported responsible gaming and efforts to address problem gambling. Through partnerships including the Evergreen Council on Problem Gambling, tribes support prevention, treatment, and research across the state, including culturally based care.
