Big moves are shaking up Sin City from Fremont Street to the south end of the Strip. We have huge Vegas updates, including another new resort that’s being planned (and this one could actually happen). Plus some major changes to the Grand Bazaar Shops outside of the Horseshoe, but we begin in downtown, and more specifically the Downtown Grand, a property that has been in receivership since defaulting on its loans.
Now, Vegas Ventures has agreed to purchase the resort, even putting down a $2.7 million deposit. They are not a gambling company, so expect Bit Street Gaming to continue the management of the casino, but players can look for major changes to dining options and the hotel itself. A court hearing is set for September 22nd to review and approve the purchase, but the casino will continue to operate and remain open during that time.
And speaking of major Vegas updates, we leave the Downtown Grand and head to the Grand Bazaar Shops located in the center of the Strip. Caesars just dropped some serious cash, $66 million to be precise, in order to acquire the shops directly in front of their Horseshoe resort. No official plans have been announced, but speculation is this purchase opens the door for the shops to be removed, perhaps for a new casino entrance, a better connection to the strip, or who knows.
Finally this week, the last of out Las Vegas updates is about that new resort we told you about, which would be located about a mile and a half north of the South Point on Las Vegas Boulevard. Plans for that property, which some have dubbed the Silverado, have been submitted to Clark County by developer Michael Ochoa, with plans to build on some 13 acres near Richmar Avenue.
The proposed boutique resort would be over 400,000 square feet with restaurants, bars, a 57,000 square foot casino, and a six-story hotel with about 450 rooms. And while many new Las Vegas resort projects are met with skepticism, this one is being taken seriously due to its modest size, great location, and an amazing architectural and engineering team.
