New York Casino Revenue Surges 220% in September 2026

New York’s commercial casino industry recorded a substantial increase in revenue during September 2026, generating $184.3 million, up 219.8% from the same month last year. The growth was largely driven by Resorts World New York City, which expanded its gaming operations earlier this year.

Figures released by the New York State Gaming Commission show that Resorts World NYC contributed $126.7 million to the statewide total, significantly exceeding revenue at the state’s four other commercial casinos.

The Queens property introduced traditional table gaming in April 2026, becoming New York’s first casino to offer the expanded gaming format under the state’s commercial casino framework.

Its subsequent development has contributed to a sharp increase in reported statewide gaming revenue, particularly from slot machines and electronic table games.

Despite its strong contribution to the annual results, Resorts World NYC recorded a 6.9% month-on-month revenue decline in September.

Resorts World Expansion Leads Statewide Growth

Resorts World NYC’s performance follows several additions to its gaming facilities during 2026.

After introducing live dealer table games in April, the property expanded into a renovated first-floor gaming area in July, adding more than 1,400 slot machines.

The additional capacity strengthened its gaming offering and increased the range of products available to customers.

The property’s $126.7 million September revenue represented approximately 69% of the state’s commercial casino total.

Rivers Casino & Resort recorded the second-highest revenue among the five properties, generating $20.1 million, an increase of 5.5% compared with September 2025.

Del Lago Resort & Casino achieved the strongest annual percentage growth among the four established full-service casinos, with revenue rising 10.1% to $15 million.

However, two properties reported declines.

As reported by CDC Gaming, citing the official report (pdf), Resorts World Catskills generated approximately $13.4 million, down 13.4% year-on-year, representing the largest percentage decrease among the casinos.

Tioga Downs also experienced weaker performance, with September revenue falling 4.3% to $9 million.

The results indicate that the statewide increase was heavily concentrated at Resorts World NYC, while the other properties experienced more moderate changes.

Slots and Table Games Account for Revenue Increase

Slot machines and electronic table games generated the majority of New York’s commercial gaming revenue during September.

According to the Gaming Commission, the category produced $129.3 million, up 217.8% from approximately $40.7 million in the corresponding period last year.

Traditional table games recorded even faster growth, with revenue increasing 252.7% to $53.6 million.

The introduction of additional live dealer facilities at Resorts World NYC contributed to the year-on-year expansion in this category.

Other gaming products accounted for considerably smaller amounts.

Poker tables generated $798,510 during September, while retail sports wagering contributed $641,480.

Sports betting revenue declined 30.8% compared with September 2025, when the category generated approximately $926,459.

Poker also recorded a modest year-on-year reduction from approximately $822,836.

The September results reflect a considerable expansion in physical casino gaming capacity, while smaller wagering categories contributed relatively little to the total.

The commission’s figures show that New York’s five commercial casinos collectively generated $109.5 million in net revenue to operators after gaming taxes, while gaming tax revenue amounted to approximately $74.7 million.

The distribution of casino tax revenue varies according to the property’s licence arrangements.

For Resorts World NYC, gaming taxes from slot machines and table games support education and property tax relief, with a portion allocated to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

Gaming Commission Advances New Regulatory Proposals

Alongside the latest financial results, New York regulators are considering changes to how licensed gambling operators use customer information and respond to potentially harmful betting behaviour.

On October 12, the New York State Gaming Commission unanimously advanced two proposed regulations addressing artificial intelligence and responsible gambling.

The first proposal would restrict the use of AI to deliver personalised gambling promotions or recommend individual wagers to customers.

The proposed requirements would cover casino operators and sportsbooks, alongside racing businesses and lottery courier services.

A second proposal would require mobile sports betting operators to identify customers showing potential signs of gambling-related harm and take appropriate action after assessing their behaviour.

Both measures remain proposals and would introduce additional obligations if formally adopted.

Separately, Brightstar Lottery secured a two-year contract extension with the Gaming Commission on October 20 to continue supplying lottery technology and services in New York.

The regulatory developments accompany a period of significant change in the state’s gambling industry, particularly following the expansion of Resorts World NYC’s facilities.
