Coljuegos, the regulatory body overseeing gaming activities in Colombia, has extended the deadline for operators to implement actions to promote responsible gaming, providing them with more time until August 1, as outlined in Resolution 7624 of 2024.
The objective of this extension, according to Coljuegos President Marco Emilio Hincapié, is to incentivize operators to develop strategies aimed at educating players about the potential consequences of irresponsible gambling practices.
“The responsible gaming strategy is made up of two stages: first, implementation, which is in charge of the operators and includes self-control mechanisms for the players; and second, monitoring, through which the results of the program are evaluated,” said Hincapié.
In addition to extending the deadline, the president indicated that Coljuegos is actively working on enhancing the responsible gaming strategy to provide greater protection to vulnerable groups.
“We have been working hand in hand with the operators with the intention of establishing guidelines and management indicators for the creation and implementation of manuals of good responsible gaming practices,” stated Hincapié.
He further elaborated: “We are also working on building a support network for those potentially affected. To this end, we have approached organizations and institutions that provide mental health services to help us care for those who present symptoms of uncontrolled gambling.”
Looking ahead, Coljuegos has scheduled a working group meeting for May 2, inviting foundations and healthcare providers interested in partnering with them to bolster the responsible gaming and mental health strategy.
