Holland Casino Online will keep its place in the regulated Dutch gambling market until at least 2031 under a five-year licence extension announced by the Netherlands Gaming Authority (Kansspelautoriteit, KSA). The renewal takes effect October 1, 2026.
The KSA announced the extension Thursday, confirming the operator’s continued standing within the Dutch regulated market.
Petra de Ruiter, Chief Executive of Holland Casino, said in a statement: “We will continue to commit to a safe and responsible online offering, where player protection always comes first.”
She added: “At the same time, it remains essential that the regulated market is attractive enough to keep players away from unregulated providers, where supervision and protection are lacking.”
Tax increase weighs on operations
The renewal follows a period of financial strain for the operator tied to changes in the Dutch gambling tax structure. The rate applied to gross gaming revenue (GGR) rose to 34.2% in January 2025, then reached 37.8% this year.
Holland Casino was among the first operators to object to the increase, stating that it would cut into the company’s profit. The operator attributed €13.5 million ($15.66 million) in additional costs during the first half of 2025 to the initial rate hike.
After confirming last year that Holland Casino would not be privatized, the government said it would work with the operator to address the effects of the tax increase.
The Ministry of Finance, when it approved the tax hike in September, projected it would generate an additional €200 million ($232 million) per year between 2025 and 2028.
