England: Former Hull pub receives city council approval to transform into 24-hour gambling spot

A proposal to transform an abandoned pub in the heart of Hull, a port city in East Yorkshire, England, into a 24-hour gambling establishment has gained approval.

Situated on Paragon Street, the venue, which last traded as the Kingston Tavern and was formerly a Yates’ Wine Lodge, is slated for a transformation under the plans submitted by JR Planning Consultants to Hull City Council.

The proposed gambling venue is expected to operate every day of the week, offering a variety of gambling machines, including slots and bingo, catering exclusively to individuals aged 18 and above.

An application for a gambling license has been filed by JR Planning Consultants. No objections were lodged against the plans, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

According to the submitted plans, the establishment aims to generate up to 14 employment opportunities while simultaneously contributing to the preservation of the Jameson Street Conservation Area’s unique character. Emphasizing the suitability of the proposed operational hours, the application highlighted the absence of adverse effects on the surrounding retail environment.

The application seeks permission for 24-hour use. Given the town center location, and that there would be no adverse impacts, this is entirely appropriate for the location,” the planning application reads.

It further asserted that the gambling venue’s operations would yield minimal disruption compared to a traditional pub, citing the anticipated low-level sound from gaming machines as a contributing factor.

As part of the regulatory process, interested parties have the opportunity to submit comments regarding the gambling license application to Hull City Council until May 9th.
