Golden Nugget Owner Eyes New Strip Casino

Industry

With the owner of the Golden Nugget Casino looking to buy a 6 acre parcel on Las Vegas Boulevard, speculation of a new Strip casino has begun. The property is located at the corner of Harmon Avenue across from the City Center.

Tilman Fertitta, the Houston billionaire who also owns the NBA’s Rockets, seems to be planning a new resort at the location. He forked out about $200 million for the property, where there is currently a retail location and a restaurant. The City Center location, next to the Aria and Vdara casinos, is also adjacent to 9 acre property planned for retail development.

If Fertitta does build a new Strip casino on the site it would add to his growing gambling empire, which includes Golden Nugget casinos in New Jersey, Mississippi, Louisiana, and two in Nevada. He just purchased a casino in Colorado as well, and owns two restaurant chains.

Neither Fertitta nor his company have commented or confirmed any purchase or pending activity on the property. However, a Las Vegas developer did confirm that he has heard rumors from “a lot of people” that the billionaire was in the market for land around the area. The developer added that a new Strip casino from Fertitta at the site would be “fantastic”.
