Cordish Gaming Group has appointed Jason Birney as Executive Vice President and General Manager of Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia.
In his new role, Birney will oversee the day-to-day operations of the South Philadelphia property, including gaming, hotel operations, food and beverage, marketing, and guest experience. He will also lead initiatives aimed at driving operational excellence, business growth, and enhancing the property’s customer experience.

Joe Billhimer, Chief Operating & Development Officer of Cordish Gaming Group, said Birney’s extensive gaming operations experience, leadership track record, and familiarity with the Philadelphia market made him well-suited to lead Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia.

Birney brings more than 20 years of gaming industry experience to the position. Most recently, he served as Head of Interactive Operations at Penn Entertainment, where he oversaw the company’s interactive gaming portfolio, including ESPN BET, Hollywood Casino, and theScore products. His responsibilities included casino development, sportsbook operations, omnichannel marketing, VIP and player development, product operations, trading, and media and sales.
Before that, Birney held several leadership positions within Penn Entertainment over nearly 17 years. These included Vice President and General Manager of Hollywood Casino Columbus, Vice President and General Manager of Hollywood Gaming Dayton Raceway, Vice President and Assistant General Manager at Hollywood Casino Columbus, and Vice President of Marketing for Hollywood Casino Columbus and Hollywood Casino Toledo.
Birney began his gaming career with Caesars Entertainment, serving in marketing roles at Harrah’s and Showboat in Atlantic City, New Jersey, as well as Harrah’s Philadelphia. In 2018, he was recognized by Global Gaming Business Magazine as one of its Emerging Leaders of Gaming “40 Under 40.”
Birney earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Florida Southern College and a Master of Business Administration from Rutgers University.
