Las Vegas: Rio hotel-casino president Trevor Scherrer steps down

Industry

Trevor Scherrer, the president of the off-Strip Rio hotel-casino, is stepping down from his role due to undisclosed health reasons, Dreamscape, the company that operates the property, announced late Tuesday.

Scherrer, who played a pivotal role in overseeing Rio’s transition from Caesars Entertainment ownership and the recruitment of its executive leadership team, will remain with the company until a suitable successor is identified.

Eric Birnbaum, founder of Dreamscape, said: “What Trevor has been able to accomplish to date has been truly remarkable, but Trevor’s health is of the utmost importance to all of us at Dreamscape and the Rio team. While it’s difficult to see him leave, we fully support his decision to focus on his health and spend time with his family.”

Scherrer brought over three decades of hospitality industry experience in Las Vegas to his role at Dreamscape, having held executive positions at MGM Grand, The Mirage, New York-New York, and Resorts World Las Vegas before leading the Rio.

The Rio underwent significant changes following its $516.3 million sale by Caesars Entertainment to New York-based Dreamscape in late 2019. Since the acquisition, Dreamscape has invested millions of dollars in remodeling projects to enhance the property.

In March, the casino unveiled concept art for its newest culinary concept, Lapa Lounge, slated to open its doors in June, in the property’s lobby. The lounge is inspired by the atmosphere of Rio de Janeiro’s Lapa neighborhood, renowned for its mix of bars, restaurants, and cultural attractions.
