Rivers Casino in Fishtown, Philadelphia, has made its annual $1 million to the Penn Treaty Special Services District (SSD), an entity that creates and administers programs and projects that benefit the district’s residents.
The funds donated by the casino, through the SSD, will be channeled directly to the well-being of residents of neighborhoods such as Fishtown, Northern Liberties, Olde Richmond and South Kensington. The organizations benefiting from these funds sponsor local festivals and community assemblies and make renovations in recreational areas such as parks and gardens. In addition, programs are also implemented in the areas of arts, sports, education and recreation.
Over the past 14 years, the Penn Treaty SSD has distributed 737 grants, amounting to $10 million, to 182 non-profit organizations. With the current contribution, Rivers Casino has reached the mark of $11.4 million donated to the Penn Treaty SSD since 2009, just before the casino opened.

During the check presentation ceremony, the Penn Treaty SSD Board of Directors also celebrated the presentation of the Community Service Awards. Four recipients, two individuals and two organizations, were singled out for their outstanding contributions to the region’s neighborhoods, receiving recognition from the City Council.
