The Plaza Hotel & Casino in downtown Las Vegas has opened a new high-limit slots room with more than 50 slot machines and higher maximum bets.
The 2,000-square-foot space features the latest slot themes, personalised guest services, and a dedicated concierge desk. Top-tier members of the Plaza’s Players Club can also check in to their hotel rooms from the new space.
Casino hosts can assist guests with dinner reservations at Oscar’s Steakhouse, hotel room upgrades, rooftop pool cabana reservations, and recommendations for activities in Las Vegas.
The room combines classic Las Vegas styling with modern elements, including dark tones, gold Art Deco detailing, and plush upholstery. It can also be converted into a private event space, with counter space for food and beverage services and a lounge area for watching sports.
“With the new High Limit Slots Room, we wanted to not only provide the newest and most popular games with higher limits but also focus on personalized customer service, such as hotel check-in and a dedicated concierge desk,” said Jonathan Jossel, CEO of the Plaza Hotel & Casino.
“The Plaza continues to diversify its offerings to meet the changing needs of our guests,” he added. “We specifically have seen our slot business continue to grow as we are welcoming more higher-end players and many of our longstanding guests have asked for this gaming amenity.”
The room’s slot machines are equipped with Acres Cashless Gaming, supporting Apple Pay and other electronic payment methods. Players can also access unattended jackpots, an ATM/TITO redemption machine, 24-hour cocktail service, and complimentary chilled non-alcoholic beverages.
The machines also process jackpots without staff assistance, cutting wait times for payouts. The feature is aimed at high-limit players who can frequently trigger reporting thresholds when placing large bets.
“If you’re betting $250 a spin, you’re hitting $2,000 potentially very frequently,” Plaza CEO Jossel said. Federal jackpot tax reporting still applies when required.
The federal reporting threshold for slot jackpots increased to $2,000 from $1,200 on January 1, 2026, under the 2025 One Big Beautiful Bill Act. It was the first inflation-adjusted increase since 1977.
The higher threshold means fewer manual jackpot payouts for high-denomination players. However, federal tax changes also limited gambling loss deductions to 90% of winnings from tax year 2026, down from 100%. The change means frequent gamblers can face a tax liability even when their overall winnings and losses are roughly equal.
Jossel said the Plaza plans further expansion, including new food-and-beverage concepts. “We are just getting started,” he stated.
To mark the opening, the Plaza has partnered with social media influencer Travel Ruby for a $10,000 grand opening slot tournament on 28 and 29 August.
Players who earn at least 1,000 slot points while playing in the High Limit Room will also have a chance to win a Virgin Cruise Experience for two.
