Stake adds New Zealand to international online casino expansion plans

Stake is pursuing entry into New Zealand’s regulated online casino market following its expansion into Alberta (Canada), Argentina and Mexico in 2026.

The company expects to pursue further international opportunities during the year, subject to market access and regulatory requirements.

Stake is among the operators that have progressed through New Zealand’s license auction process and secured the right to apply for a license under the country’s new regulatory framework.

However, no licenses have been granted yet, and the market is expected to launch in 2027, subject to completion of the licensing process and regulatory approvals.

The potential New Zealand entry follows the company’s efforts to establish operations in additional markets. Since its launch in 2017, Stake has developed its online gaming business and become one of the industry’s recognized brands.

Licensing process sets the next steps

Stake’s progress through the auction process gives the company an opportunity to apply for authorization under New Zealand’s new framework. The operator must still complete the required licensing process before it can offer online casino services in the country.

A Stake spokesperson said: “We’re really excited about the opportunity in New Zealand as the market moves towards regulation. It’s a strong fit for Stake and another important step in growing our presence globally.

“This follows our expansion into Alberta, Argentina and Mexico this year, and reflects our wider strategy of entering new markets where we see long-term potential.

“We’re looking forward to the next stages of the process and, ultimately, bringing the Stake experience to customers in New Zealand.”

Stake operates an online casino and sportsbook and combines online gaming with major sports and entertainment.
