A new customer at online sportsbook Tonybet turned a CA$40 ($28) first wager into CA$12,572.40 ($8,863) after correctly predicting the outcome of a 10-leg Major League Baseball accumulator using the operator’s pre-built Hot Combo feature.
According to the company, the customer selected the “MLB Favorites Only” Hot Combo, which combined victories for the Blue Jays, Twins, Rays, Rangers, Marlins, Red Sox, Padres, Tigers, Phillies and Cubs on a single day of games.
The accumulator carried combined odds of 247.49 after each team, priced between 1.53 and 1.94 individually, won its respective game. Tonybet’s ComboBoost feature increased the payout by a further 27%.
The outcome was uncommon despite the selections consisting entirely of favourites, with Tonybet noting that baseball is regarded as one of the more unpredictable professional sports.
The company further pointed out that only a handful of teams have won at least 70% of their games over a full Major League Baseball season, with the 2001 Seattle Mariners the most recent to achieve the feat.
Tonybet offers sports betting markets covering Major League Baseball, the National Hockey League, the National Basketball Association and international sporting events. The platform also provides pre-built Hot Combo accumulators, in-play betting and its ComboBoost feature, which increases returns on qualifying multi-selection bets.
