Germany has already had an explosive start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup’s Group Stage, as it decimated Curacao in a soul-crushing 7-1 rout, with Ivory Coast holding its own and prying away a hard-fought 1-0 win against Ecuador.

Germany Is Firing at All Cylinders, and Ivory Coast Will Struggle

While how these two teams started their opening games definitely came with a different cadence, it’s important to remember that Ivory Coast is not in quite the pinch some may think.

The team actually has a fairly decent chance of winning at (+500), which may be a fairly long shot, but it’s within the realm of possibility, which means that the (+356) draw probability is pretty reasonable.

Germany has, and is bringing a lot to the stadium, including Manuel Neuer, Florian Wirtz, and Jamal Musiala. Germany’s captain, Joshua Kimmich is a similarly threatening presence in the field.

However, the team will have to face off against a few Ivory Coast talents trained on home turf. Players such as Yan Diomande who plays for RB Leipzig, have been performing consistently well and they are going to give Ivory Coast a fighting chance.

Kimmich himself noted that while nobody knew about Diomande previously, his status with RB Leipzig and consistently strong performance has brought him in the limelight in the Bundesliga.

The two teams have only faced head-to-head once before – in 2009, when they drew at 2-2. A friendly fixture ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup was supposed to happen, but was ultimately cancelled

Germany is a bit like Brazil when it comes to World Cup performance, and it can be inconsistent at times, which could be Ivory Coast’s opening here. Ivory Coast also has a few players that will continually threaten the German defense lines, including Amad Diallo and Bazoumana Touré.

However, Evan Ndcika could miss the important game as he is recovering from a hamstring injury. Ivory Coast has a good chance to emerge from the Group Stage, but much will ride on how it does against Germany in the upcoming game on Sunday.

This said, we predict that Germany will win 2-0, meaning that it will cover the Under 2.5 Totals market.

Pick: Under 2.5 (+130)
