2026 FIFA World Cup Group Stage

New Zealand is tipped to lose the upcoming Group Stage game against Egypt at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and this is not surprising. The team has struggled in international games and it drew against Iran at 2-2 in the opening game.

On the other hand, Egypt was able to hold its own against Brazil, ending the game 1-1 and is now poised to win its second game in the group with bookies putting the probability at (-167). Let’s take a closer look

Both New Zealand and Egypt will be looking to build upon their opening game draws and secure a win in the upcoming game, but it is admittedly the Oceanic country that needs to be paying extra attention.

Egypt pulled off a remarkable game against Brazil, resisting one of the most accomplished soccer powerhouses in the world, and even leading the score there for a while, before Brazil equalized later in the second half.

What this showed is that Egypt is one of the true dark horses of the tournament, much like Morocco and the team is expected to get ahead. Now, though, Egypt has to do away with New Zealand.

The oddsmakers believe this could very well be the case, posting their chance at (-167) whereas New Zealand is hinted to struggle at (+490). New Zealand did have an encouraging start to the tournament, but in head-to-head comparison, Egypt is still a cut above the team.

New Zealand’s most recent friendlies against Colombia, England, Haiti, Ecuador, and Colombia. In 2024, the team also lost to Egypt, and the team will now face elite strikers such as Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush, not to mention Ashour, who will continue to pile pressure on the Oceanic nation.

New Zealand also has to address its defense deficiencies, which were already prodded and exploited by Iran but if anything the game should have given the Oceanic team a lot to think about.

New Zealand though has aces to play as well. Elijah Just scored twice against Iran at 7’ and 55’ and he was assisted by Chris Wood who, quite frankly, has put one of the most formidable performances so far in the World Cup tournament WIll this be enough to resist the Egyptian juggernaut? This remains to be seen.

We want to believe that New Zealand can find its footing for this one and win against Egypt indeed, or at least bring the game to another draw. This could very well be, providing the team manages its defense better than it did in the game against Iran

Pick: Draw (+323)
