2026 FIFA World Cup Group Stage

Scotland is going up against Morocco for its second game in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and it is facing some very long odds. Morocco has shaped itself as a soccer powerhouse.

After securing a draw against Brazil, the country is doubling down on its groups for the group and is very likely to secure the maximum points from its next two games, against Scotland and Haiti.

Let’s take a look at why Morocco can do in its current shape, whether Scotland has a chance, and what to expect.

Morocco Shines Against Brazil, Proving an Equal Rival

The biggest take away from Morocco’s opening game is it played with arguably the best team in its group – and one of the contenders for this year’s trophy, Brazil. Morocco proved to  not only be remarkably resilient against Brazil, but also – to play on par with the multiple-times World Cup winners.

In fact, the team was able to open the scoring against Brazil in the 21’ with a point secured by Ismael Saibari but Brazil quickly caught up with a goal by Vinicius Junior at 32’

More importantly, Morocco is now tipped to be the World Cup’s darkhorse, possibly making it far ahead in the event, and laying a serious claim to the trophy itself.

But it’s not just the homegrown talent that matters. Morocco has sent a lot of its talent overseas, allowing the national team to learn from that experience, including from Real Madrid’s Brahim Diaz and Achraf Hakimi, the captain.

Players like Bilal el Khannous and Ayyoub Bouaddi are only standing to learn from the concentrated talent and experience the players are bringing, and help shape a new generation of talented and well-disciplined players focused on excelling.

The fact Morocco was able to score against Brazil first and then held on without allowing another goal in its net speaks clearly to the country’s potential.

Scotland’s Mettle Will Be Tested in Upcoming Game

Scotland pried away a comfortable win against Haiti, securing a goal at 28’ and failing to push past this record. The team played at a comfortable pace, but it faltered to effect any meaningful change to the score.

If anything, Haiti maintained a dead-even possession of the ball with Scotland – 50%, but one thing stood out. Scotland’s defense held up even though Haiti attempted 13 shots against its goalie, with 3 shots on target.

Scotland was able to withstand those, while also delivering 3 shots on target itself, and turning this into a success. Now, the upcoming game will not see many points. Scotland knows it has a disadvantage playing world-class players here, and will attempt to batten down the hatches and make sure its goalie is clear of any immediate threat.

At the same time, the team will rely on explosive counter-attacks that we have seen it deliver. What Scotland needs to work on is its ability to convert those into scoring attempts, and up the number of shots it has taken.

Pick: Morocco to Win (-134)
