2026 FIFA World Cup Round 16

Folarin Belogun will be playing in the game against Belgium, even though he received a red card against Bosnia and Herzegovina. The decision to overturn the red card has definitely been a cause for anxiety and anger among some soccer fans, but it is giving USMNT in full strength against their European rivals. Regardless, the USA is heading as the slight favorite over Belgium to win. The team is set to make history.

Is Team US really that good – Belgium is set to find out?

Team US is definitely not a soccer squad to sneeze at. USMNT only faltered against Turkey in a highly-contested game that saw the European squad beat the hosts with a single goal secured at the very end of the extra time at 90+8’ by Kaan Ayhan, and was indeed what some observers have described as a happenstance.

Regardless, USMNT has learned from this experience and is heading into the Round of 16 confident that it will not make the same mistake twice. Triumphing over Bosnia and Herzegovina with a 2-0 has already proven that the US are capable of pulling a strong game and dominating their opponents, no matter who they are.

Team US is definitely riding a wave of popularity and is pulling off one of its most formidable international performances. The team owes much of this to a young host of self-confident players who are also living up to their name.

Belogun’s return in the game against Belgium, although criticized by some fans, is an important ace up USMNT’s hand. The loss against Turkey still saw the team dominate their European opponents, and players such as Auston Tursty and Sebastian Berhaller performed strongly.

So, faced with such a strong team playing on its home turf, what can Belgium do? Well, for one Belgium has not lost a single game but it drew against Egypt in a highly-contested 1-1 game. No surprises there, as Egypt’’s new generation of players is learning directly from Premier League superstars setting the nation for future soccer success.

As to Belgium specifically, it played closed games against Senegal, but persistent performance against Youri Tielemans and Romelu Lukaku saw it edge out the opponents. It is worth noting that Belgium was down 2-0 when it scored twice in 86’ and 89’ quickly swatting away any worries about elimination in the Round of 32.

So yes, Belgium clearly has some weaknesses overall, but it is doing very well overall and the team is also going to be facing USMNT in full strength, making for an epic game. In fact, we believe the Europeans will end the US’ winning streak.

Pick: Belgium to Win (+104)
