Alberta iGaming Corporation Names Dan Keene as Permanent CEO

The Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC) has appointed Dan Keene as its permanent chief executive officer ahead of the launch of the province’s iGaming market. The organization’s board expressed trust in the appointee’s expertise and incredible track record.

Dan Keene Becomes Permanent CEO

Dan Keene, who was previously named AiGC CEO on an interim basis, has now been appointed to the role permanently, effective April 21, 2026. This move recognizes Keene’s incredible contributions to Alberta’s gaming sector and trusts him with the future of its upcoming iGaming market.

Keene’s prior experiences include time with the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC), cementing him as an individual who is well-versed in gaming. He was named vice president of gaming at the AGLC in July 2022 and has since overseen retail gaming, online gaming, loyalty programs, and compliance.

Speaking of loyalty programs, Keene’s achievements include the creation of Winner’s Edge, Alberta’s first province-wide casino loyalty program. He has also been responsible for overseeing the PlayAlberta.ca website, which is currently the only online platform where local players can gamble legally.

Keene’s earlier role at the AGLC was manager of casino products. As such, he was responsible for a team of specialists picking the games for Alberta’s casinos and VLT locations.

The Board Trusts Keene to Lead the AiGC

Sanjeev Kad, chair of the AiGC board, was pleased to welcome Keene as a permanent CEO, hailing his expertise and proven understanding of the gaming sector.

Dan brings deep operational experience and a strong track record in gaming and market development. His leadership will be essential as the Alberta iGaming Corporation prepares for launch and delivers a regulated market built on social responsibility and player protection.

In the meantime, Alberta prepares to launch its regulated iGaming market, allowing commercial companies to enter the market. By expanding its online casino space, the province hopes to replicate the incredible success of Ontario’s gaming sector.

With that in mind, the AiGC will be responsible for overseeing Alberta’s nascent commercial iGaming space.
