Allwyn UK CEO Departs, Phil Walker Appointed as Interim CEO

Allwyn Entertainment Limited (Allwyn UK) has announced changes to its leadership, confirming Andria Vidler’s departure from the CEO role. The company added that Phil Walker has been appointed as her successor on an interim basis.

In its announcement, Allwyn UK said that Vidler’s tenure has seen Allwyn undergo significant growth in the UK, modernizing and enhancing The National Lottery. Since becoming the new custodian of the lottery, Allwyn UK has, under the direction of Vidler, delivered major infrastructure updates for its 43,500 retail partners. The operator has also overhauled the lottery’s website, opening a new chapter for lottery gaming in the UK.

With all this in mind, Vidler and the company’s chair, Justin King, decided that this was the right moment for a leadership transition. As mentioned, Phil Walker has now been appointed interim chief executive officer of Allwyn UK.

Walker was described as a William Hill veteran who has served the operator in a variety of roles, such as UK & Ireland managing director, online managing director, and CCO. During his time with the company, William Hill expanded its market share.

According to Allwyn UK’s announcement, Walker’s “expertise will support Allwyn as it builds on the progress already made and focuses on digital transformation and the next phase of growth for The National Lottery.”

In the meantime, Vidler will remain in an advisory capacity to ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities.

Executives Determined This Was the Right Time for Such a Change

Justin King commented on the transition, thanking Vidler for her contributions and wishing her all the best in future endeavors. He also welcomed Walker as interim CEO, trusting him to continue the modernization of The National Lottery.

With the major transition milestones delivered, now is the right time to look to the future and build on the solid foundations that have been laid to create a strong platform for future growth. We are pleased to welcome Phil as Interim CEO as we continue to modernise and strengthen The National Lottery for players, retailers and Good Causes.

Vidler also commented on the matter, saying that she feels privileged to have had the opportunity to lead the company and is proud of what Allwyn has achieved in terms of transforming The National Lottery.

But transforming The National Lottery is a marathon, not a sprint, and with the major transition now complete, and The National Lottery in a stronger position to keep delivering for the nation, this feels like the right moment for me to pass on the baton.

Last but not least, Phil Walker said that he is proud to be taking the aforementioned baton from Andria and joining Allwyn UK, which he called a “vital national institution” due to its custodianship of The National Lottery.

As a long-standing National Lottery player, I know first-hand the difference it makes to communities across the UK and this is a huge part of what attracted me to the role.  It will be a real honour to help build on the progress already made.
