Armenia is ready to adopt measures against illegal online gambling, with telecom companies assisting in banning foreign betting and lottery sites from February 2027.
According to the State Revenue Committee (SRC), the law on the regulation of gaming operations and the relevant legislation will be amended starting from 8 February 2027.
The amendments to the law will ensure stricter actions against organisations running gambling services without Armenian licence. The SRC representatives pointed out that the measures in use are not effective any longer due to the increasing online advertising of foreign gambling companies.
The newly adopted measures will concern the websites that provide gaming and lottery services without the necessary Armenian licences.
The reforms will look at measures to control advertising by unlicensed gambling companies. The SRC had earlier cautioned about foreign operators utilizing online means to relay their message about their offerings in Armenia while allowing them to circumvent advertising restrictions.
New regulations are expected to help the authorities to restrict the ways unlicensed companies can advertise in the country.
The blocking measures will coincide with the introduction of a new monitoring system for licensed gambling operators. Armenia has chosen Random Systems International to create a centralized system that will track betting operations and will provide the SRC instant access to gambling data.
The system will also fulfill a monitoring function concerning compliance with gaming responsibilities and restrictions for vulnerable groups and state officials.
This monitoring platform is expected to start functioning in full force by January 2027 to coincide with the enforcement of the new website-blocking measures.
