Betsson’s second-quarter earnings call revealed that the company retains considerable momentum despite some short-term challenges. According to CEO Pontus Lindwall, the company is positioning itself for long-term growth in key new markets, prioritizing customer acquisition and retention. Meanwhile, Betsson continues to innovate, refining its proprietary technology and anticipating market trends.
Most Metrics Recorded Steady Growth
The company’s financials remain positive. Revenue rose to a record EUR 310 million ($354 million) and active customers increased 32% year-over-year. Consumer interest surged in mid-June with the kickoff of the FIFA World Cup, bringing in many new bettors and bolstering engagement among existing users. Lindwall noted that big tournaments tend to compress months of activity into a few intense weeks. This time, however, the gains may persist.
Latin America stands out as one of the most promising regions, expanding 32% year-over-year. Peru and Argentina performed especially well, leading the pack with local marketing and steady product tweaks rather than single high-profile campaigns. According to Lindwall, this model works well for Betsson as the company tailors its offerings to local tastes.
Despite these impressive results, not every metric kept pace as the company’s B2B arm failed to surpass last year’s results. Lindwall saw this as a chance to rebuild momentum with partners while refining the company’s offering. Overall, EBIT came in at EUR 42 million ($48 million), down year-on-year but an improvement over last month. Lindwall noted that the company was balancing profitability with growth, even in high-potential regions.
Platform and Product Updates Are Keeping Pace
Innovation remains a core aspect of Betsson’s strategy. Its proprietary platform remains a key feature, managing everything from payments to customer data. In recent months, the company has doubled down on AI to streamline operations, especially in customer service and marketing. For Lindwall, this technology is a useful tool to help manage scale, especially during events like the World Cup.
Within Betsson, artificial intelligence, AI, has been an important factor supporting, for example, customer service and various predictive tools.

Product updates are also central to maintaining Betsson’s leadership position. Features such as “Goal Rush” and “Super Sub” were created to make matches more interactive and extend betting windows. On the casino side, the company added hundreds of new titles, including some exclusive offerings. This approach gives Betsson’s customers a reason to stay with the company.
Lindwall is closely watching prediction markets but is in no rush to join them. He noted that while they have spread across the United States, regulators elsewhere are likely to treat them as traditional betting products. For Betsson, the distinction is almost meaningless. However, Lindwall noted that the user experience with these platforms could provide valuable insight into how to attract a different kind of player.
