The Commercial Gambling Management Commission (CGMC) of Cambodia is all set to start its nationwide inspection of casinos, which would be a part of wider attempt to strengthen supervision of the gambling sector in the country.
CGMC Secretary General Yeth Vinel led a meeting on July 20 in which officials reviewed the inspection programs being drawn up and the regulatory priorities of the second half of 2026. The commission also discussed its strategy for 2027 to 2030.
Regulators stated that preparations for the inspection of casinos are underway, but they have given little information about when the inspection starts, how many casinos would be inspected and what criteria will be used for the inspections.
In June, Aun Pornmoniroth, the chairman of CGMC, informed that it was essential for state departments to carry out proper monitoring of casinos in relation to their license issues, according to Khmer Times news. He further pointed out that operators guilty of any fraudulent actions or crimes in cyberspace would risk losing their license.
His statement explains the current status of the commission’s activities in case policy making has begun to be combined with enforcement.
The report dated July 20 reveals no details on certain casinos or locations. It comprises references to internal activities of the commission including strategic planning and future inspections.
The move comes on the heels of talks held earlier this month about a draft inspection framework for casinos and the introduction of stricter licensing to gaming professionals.
The current preparations build upon comments made earlier in June by the commission chairman that all the casinos should have their licenses verified and that any casino operator having a history of fraudulent activities, including online crime, would lose their licence.
