The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma is investing $140 million in the expansion and modernization of its Choctaw Casino & Resort in Pocola, a significant investment for the tribe. The project is expected to boost the resort’s capacity and overall guest experience significantly and increase its contribution to the regional economy.
Pocola Casino Transforms from Bingo Hall into Major Resort Hub
The Pocola property, near the Arkansas border, has evolved significantly since opening as a small bingo hall in 1994. Over the course of 30 years, it has evolved into a full-blown entertainment destination complete with a hotel, expansive gaming, dining and more than 7,000 square feet of event space.
The new development will feature a new seven-story hotel tower with 130 additional rooms, including upgraded suites. The expansion, when complete, will nearly double the resort’s lodging capacity and allow it to accommodate more visitors from surrounding areas such as northwest Arkansas and the River Valley.
The project also boasts a wide variety of new amenities along with the new tower. Plans include a resort-style swimming pool with cabanas and an outdoor bar, and a full-service spa dedicated to relaxation and wellness. The upgrade will feature a modern fitness center open 24/7 and a specialty coffee and tea venue.
Casino Renovation to Refresh Rooms, Gaming Areas and Dining Venues
The existing hotel will be refurbished throughout, updating furnishings, lighting, flooring and bathrooms in all 118 rooms. This includes updating finishes and lighting systems to refresh the casino floor and common areas both visually and functionally.
The new spaces will include several operational areas, including the poker room, off-track betting section and rewards program facilities. Food and beverage outlets throughout the resort will be refreshed with new concepts and updated menus with a renewed focus on craft beverages.
Tribal leadership said the investment is meant to solidify the property’s role as an economic driver in LeFlore County. The resort is already one of the biggest employers in the area, and the expansion is expected to create more opportunities and bring in more visitors.
Project representatives say it is a sign of a broader commitment to long-term growth and investment in the community. Tutor Perini Construction and JCJ Architecture will be partners in the construction, with groundbreaking scheduled for later this year.
The expansion comes as the regional gaming landscape shifts and sets the Choctaw Nation up for a stronger position in eastern Oklahoma and surrounding markets.
