Google tightens gambling ad certification rules

Google has implemented additional requirements related to gambling and games advertising certification for all segments covered by its Gambling and Games Policy as of September 14, 2026.

In June, Google announced that it would introduce enhancements to its Gambling and Games Policy in the entire world starting from September 14, thus building on the steps taken in March.

According to the new regulations, advertisers in any gambling or games area must have a good history of compliance in order to receive the certification. Advertising companies must own the domain which they submit to Google. Domains hosted on free subdomains will not be accepted, and independent domains cannot be used to acquire certification for gambling promotions. The new measures increase the responsibility of agencies and other third parties dealing with gambling ads.

If Manager Accounts abuse the certifications, agencies managing multiple gambling campaigns will not have the right to receive new ones and vice versa.

The new changes of certification ad rules are connected to latest fines and increasing scrutiny Google faces over its role in distributing illegal gambling advertising.

In July EU Court of Justice applied $854,000 (€730,000) penalty as Google could not automatically rely on intermediary liability protections for gambling content uploaded to YouTube by commercial partners.
