iGaming Market Weekly Report: Aug 24-30, 2026

The matters of domestic soccer, the biggest lottery jackpots and the calendar of sports events created the trend of the last week as Kansas ranked first among the countries that showed positive growth with +78.5%. Cyprus took the second place with +48.7%, due to the €5.4 million Joker jackpot and the start of the season of the national soccer league.

Much of the progress was caused by the events. North Macedonia, Colombia, Tanzania, Spain, South Africa, Namibia and Pakistan took advantage of the series of soccer, cricket and rugby matches. In several countries, the earnings went up irrespective of the particular event responsible for it.

The losses were much more diverse. Turkey was the country that recorded the greatest fall of –34.8% in spite of having the complete program of games of the Süper Lig championships. Quebec also went down due to the resetting of the C$55 million Lotto Max lottery prize. Russia continued to decline after its previous growth of +134.0%, while Switzerland corrected its previous advance of +40.3%.

Top 5 Gainers of the Week

top 5 gainers of aug 24 30

US-Kansas (+78.5%)

Kansas saw the biggest uptick this week; the likely reason behind this is that there were numerous local sporting and lottery events that intersected in Kansas City. For instance, the Kansas City Royals had a nine-game winning streak until it finally came to an end on August 26, only to initiate a new string of victories with a 13–2 win over Toronto and two wins against Cleveland on August 28–29. In addition to that, just a couple of days earlier, on August 24, a Kansas ticket won $50,000 in Powerball. Although individually none of these occurrences could be called a cause and effect link, they served as great triggers for local search activity.

Cyprus (+48.7%)

Cyprus benefitted both from two gambling events occurring simultaneously. On the one hand, the Joker draw 3111, which took place on August 27, did not produce any winner classified in the first tier, thus making the jackpot amount to €5.54 million on August 30 draw, as the jackpot is now carried over. On the other hand, the Cyprus League by Stoiximan started the new season on August 28, which is why there were six games scheduled during the first weekend of the seaso, including three derbies.

North Macedonia (+30.7%)

Domestic football served as the sole apparent factor. Since there was no special regulatory or lottery factor during the reporting period, the huge start of the football season is the best explanation.

Colombia (+26.4%)

Colombia experienced a second consecutive increase, which comes after a 27.9% rise the previous week. Liga BetPlay resumed after the pause due to an earthquake, and Matchday 8 was held on August 26, with seven games on August 29 and 30. The continuous rise seems to be related to the return of domestic football rather than to one particular new event.

Tanzania (+26%)

Tanzania’s football calendar also featured several prominent matches. Young Africans won against JKT Tanzania 4-0 on August 24 and continued to perform well with a 2-0 victory against Pamba Jiji on August 28. The rival club Simba managed to win in their respective game of the NBC Premier League Round 4 as well, and both clubs won all their matches during the first four rounds.

Top 5 Decliners of the Week

top 5 decliners of aug 24 30

Turkey (–34.8%)

In spite of the fact thatජ this week was the week of the greatest fall in Turkey, which had a complete series of matches in the Süper Lig, Galatasaray lost to Göztepe (3:2), while Başakşehir and Kasımpaşa played a tie match (1:1). Therefore, the mere fact of having top division matches is not enough to explain the decline, as there was no hint of regulation issues or any new enforcement throughout the period.

CA–Quebec (–23.6%)

The decline in Quebec’s C$55 million Lotto Max jackpot, which was held on August 21, caused this week’s decrease. The amount of C$10 million for August 25 has been determined by the need to reduce the amount available in an unusually large jackpot and thus restore the normal demand of players.

Russia (–22.5%)

Following August’s amazing +134.0% increase, the index continued to fall in Russia. Although the comparison week has included an important match in the Russian Premier League (CSKA–Lokomotiv and Spartak–Zenit) that sparked high demand, it could not produce a similar level of interest this time. The index has now experienced two consecutive weeks of decline after the jump in August during the week from the 10th to the 16th.

CA-Alberta (-17.8%)

Alberta’s performance fell in spite of the positive growth recorded by privately owned online operators. BetRivers unveiled its plans to enter into a collaboration with two Gateway casinos with the Canadian authorities reminding the stakeholders that contracts for sports predictions are subjected to province-specific gambling regulations.

Switzerland (-14.9%)

Switzerland failed to follow up on its recent success as last week it was leading the standings with 40.3% growth in figures. The previous surge took place in connection with Matchday 4 of the Swiss Super League whereas the last week was still important as it witnessed Young Boys taking on Basel on August 29.

Market Spotlight: (Cyprus +48.7%)

Cyprus brought up the second-highest increase ratio during the week when two gambling events coincided.

The Joker lottery was the first of these events. In draw 3111, held on August 27, there was no winner of a big prize, which caused a jackpot of €5.54 million for the next draw on August 30. The draw did not produce any big winner as well, so the sum will remain high for the next possible win.

The second reason for the increase was the arrival of the Cyprus League by Stoiximan on August 28. Six matches were held and three of them were hosted at once, which caused an active period of betting.

It is hard to separate the causes of the success. The increase in interest was triggered by the Joker lottery, while the local tournament provided many matches during the opening weekend.

The following data should help understand what has happened. Joker is expected to increase in the next draw on September 1 and Matchday 2 will be held between September 4-7. A possibility to remain on the same level will confirm a multi-event impact; decrease in the interest level will make the increase seem like a one-time surge.
