Italy have proposed legislation introducing 2% tax on betting revenue of football from which the funds would be used to make reforms in Italian football system.
Senator Paolo Marcheschi of Brothers of Italy party is the one who presented the proposal. It is aimed at strengthening the Italian football system after the national team missed 2016 FIFA World Cup qualification.
The tax is planned to affect bets from different leagues and competitions regulated by Italian Football Federation (FIGC). Approximately 230 million euros would be raised from enforcing the tax every year.
Marcheschi called the discussed tax as funding channel to deal with systematic problems faced by Italian football organizations.
According to the proposal, 50% of revenue would be directed to youth football development through the establishment of training centers and academy while other 50% would be spent on bankrupt state project of amateur football responsible gambling programs and encouraging young people to take part in sports activities in Italy.
