These Turtles Are Hooked on Capsaicin
Feeding chili peppers to pet turtles has become something of a controversial viral trend. While it is generally ill-advised to feed these animals capsaicin-rich foods, such videos have nevertheless gained traction due to turtles’ seemingly nonchalant reaction to foods that humans find spicy.
Since feeding your pet food that can irritate its stomach is a bad idea, NetEnt has had the creative idea of representing chili peppers as something of a drug in the world of Spice. The game’s two main characters are mobster-inspired turtles who clearly benefit from the sale of chili peppers to turtlekind.
The game’s symbols feature the two main characters, as well as various peppers, boxes of capsaicin powder and bottles full of hot sauce.
Spice Boasts Some Spicy Features and Mechanics
In terms of gameplay, Spice boasts an Avalanche feature that removes winning symbols from the grid, allowing new ones to fall in their place. There are also Wild symbols that make scoring wins easier for the players. Random Wilds can randomly award several Wild symbols, facilitating a win. Locked Wilds, on the other hand, remain locked in place and do not disappear during avalanches.
Bomb symbols, meanwhile, explode during losing spins, removing all symbols around them and doubling the multiplier of affected positions. As a result, even non-winning spins can turn into winning ones.
Another major feature is the Row Converter. When no win is scored and no other feature is activated, the Row Converter can turn all symbols across a single row into copies of the same symbol. A 9-Square Converter functions similarly, but transforms a 3×3 square instead.
The Bomb, Row Converter, 9-Square Converter, Random Wilds and Locked Wilds features are triggered via the Feature Lane atop the grid.
In addition to all these features, the game also has Scatter symbols that can trigger a Free Spins mode with up to 3 spins. During Free Spins, all winning positions are marked with a multiplier frame that is doubled with every consecutive win. A Super Free Spins feature can also be triggered with a special Scatter symbol in the mix. The difference is that in Super Free Spins a random multiplier is assigned to every position from the very beginning.
