Man Denied $100K Winnings as Hoosier Lottery Claims Technical Issue

Winning the lottery is what many dream of, but players don’t always have it easy. Previously, a winner in Texas had her payout delayed due to a lottery courier services scandal. Now, a player in Indiana has been denied a $100,000 payout since the lottery claims it happened due to a technical error.

Technical Issues Jeopardized the Space Invaders Cash Invasion Game

The Indiana resident, a man by the name of Mike Fields, thought his dreams had come true when a $5 scratch-off ticket appeared to net him some $100,000. The player had bought a $5 Space Invaders Cash Invasion ticket and was excited to redeem it.

The man drove to the Hoosier Lottery HQ in Downtown Indianapolis to cash in the ticket, but the mood quickly turned sour when he was told that his actual winnings were only $20 and that the $100,000 payout was a mistake caused by an unspecified technical issue. The lottery did not disclose further details about the nature of the issue.

Fields felt let down and contacted FOX 59 about the situation. As it turned out, he wasn’t the only one experiencing a similar issue, as a separate report stated that a different player appeared to win $2,500 and drove to the lottery HQ, only to be told that he had been a victim of a technical error.

Since then, the sale of the $5 Space Invaders Cash Invasion tickets has been halted. Lottery officials explained that the game had launched with a technical issue and expressed their firm commitment to upholding the integrity it strives to provide.

The public, however, wasn’t convinced, with many people online voicing support for the players who were let down by the lottery.

It has yet to be seen whether the affected players will file complaints.

Hoosier Lottery Winner Was Allowed to Claim Prize from Shredded Ticket

While the latest Hoosier Lottery isn’t the happiest one, that doesn’t mean the lottery has always been at odds with its players. On the contrary, a case from 2023 shows that lottery officials are prepared to support winners, even if their tickets are damaged.

The case in question relates to a ticket worth $50,000 that was accidentally shredded by an employee. Luckily, the Hoosier Lottery Commission approved the payout, allowing the winner to claim their money.
