Massachusetts Publishes Its Gaming Revenue Report for August

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission has published a report concerning the performance of its gaming industry for the month of August 2026. As it turns out, the regulator recorded аn month-on-month increase in GGR, highlighting the stability of the local gaming industry.

Massachusetts’ Commercial Casinos Experienced a Slight Increase in GGR

According to the announcement, Plainridge Park Casino (PPC), MGM Springfield (MGM), and Encore Boston Harbor (EBH) generated roughly $101.9 million in GGR for August, up from $95.7 million in July.

EBH’s GGR for the period stood at $62.9 million, while MGM and PPC’s GGR figures were $23.9 million and $15.2 million, respectively.

In total, the three venues paid $29.1 million in casino taxes. EBH paid the most at $15.7 million (25% of its revenue). MGM, on the other hand, paid almost $6 million in taxes (25% of its revenue). Lastly, PPC, which is a category 2 slots facility, taxed at 49% of GGR, paid $7.4 million in taxes in August.

The MGC Also Released the Monthly Betting Figures

In terms of sports wagering revenue, the three casinos reported a total of $438,576. Their handle stood at $4.8 million.

EBH’s total betting revenue for August was $213,936, while PPC’s reached $224,640. MGM experienced struggles and its revenue hold was estimated to be 0.16%, resulting in negligible revenue.

In terms of online betting, Bally Bet, BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings, Fanatics Betting & Gaming, FanDuel, and theScore Bet reported a total handle of $556.5 million, which resulted in revenue of $46.7 million.

The breakdown of online sportsbooks’ individual revenue metrics for August is as follows:

  • Bally Bet: $328,699
  • BetMGM: $3.9 million
  • Caesars Sportsbook: $1.1 million
  • DraftKings: $22.8 million
  • Fanatics: $4.3 million
  • FanDuel: $12.9 million
  • theScore Bet: $1.30 million

In terms of taxes, the retail betting sector paid $65,785, with EBH paying $32,090 and PPC paying $33,696. The total online betting taxes for August reached $9.3 million. Here’s a breakdown of what each online operator paid:

  • Bally Bet: $65,739
  • BetMGM: $780,341
  • Caesars Sportsbook: $228,243
  • DraftKings: $4.6 million
  • Fanatics: $862,121
  • FanDuel: $2.6 million
  • theScore Bet: $259,681

Massachusetts Launched a Program to Protect Athletes from Bettor Harassment

In other news, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission recently launched a new anti-harassment initiative that seeks to protect athletes from bettors who harass them. The new initiative is called Bet on Respect and is all about championing respect for the athletes who make sports possible.

Under the new program, the MGC’s Sports Wagering Division will collect evidence of harassment and may decide to exclude certain players from wagering with legal operators.
