The state of Massachusetts has much to celebrate after a new big-time winner emerged on Friday, September 18. A ticket worth $500,000 has been won by one Angela Tarr in the Bay State, making it one of the largest six-figure prizes to have been secured in recent days.
New Winner Steps Forward to Claim Her $500K Payday
The lottery revealed more details about the win, including the game name: $500,000 Frenzy, a scratcher that costs $50 to play. The game features 50 top prizes, with 15 already won and 35 more remaining to be claimed. The game launched on May 12, 2026, and has been averaging 4 wins a month. The overall odds of securing any prize from the game are 1 in 3.78.
The specific winning ticket was sold at Family Farms at 202 Merriam Ave in Leominster, bringing the customary 1% bonus to the property for selling the correct ticket – $5,000.
The Thursday lottery draw awarded at least 1,125 prizes worth $600 or more to people who participated in various games.
Tarr was quick to step forward and claim her prize, with the lucky winner opting for the one-time payment, reducing her total to $355,000 before applicable taxes. Tarr also posed for the customary photo with the outsized check for the Bay State lottery.
Earlier this year, one Patricia Markland won the same top prize on July 6, also opting for the one-time payment option. Markland’s ticket was purchased at Val’s Variety at 5 Columbia St in Adams, and it also led to a $5,000 bonus for the retailer.
