Tribal gaming giant Mohegan has announced the appointment of a new vice president, deputy general counsel. The one up to the task is the experienced Kristi Hanney, who has served the company’s legal team for years.
Hanney to Become VP, Deputy General Counsel
Hanney joined the Mohegan family in 2022 when she was named senior corporate counsel. Since then, she has been a core part of the company’s legal team, playing a key role in various important transactions and strategic initiatives.
Mohegan cited the successful strengthening of its balance sheet in 2025, the sale of the Connecticut Sun, and the restructuring of Mohegan’s digital businesses as key initiatives Hanney participated in. In addition to that, she has long supported the tribal business’ corporate governance, finance, compliance, and international matters.
In her new position, the appointee will be tasked with overseeing the Mohegan Legal Department, as well as entity management, litigation, finance and development initiatives, budgeting and administration. Hanney will also be responsible for leading corporate governance, negotiating contracts, and ensuring that the company’s business remains compliant with applicable regulations.
Mohegan Has Recognized Hanney’s Ability
In its release, Mohegan noted that Hanney has previously owned and operated the Law Office of Kristi A. Hanney in Connecticut. Earlier in her legal career, she served as a partner at Louden Caisse Hanney.
Mohegan’s senior vice president, chief legal officer & general counsel, Joseph Lobe, lauded Hanney as a “major part” of the company’s legal team. He thanked her for her role as an advisor on some of the most important transactions in Mohegan’s recent history and said that he is looking forward to working with her in the new role.
Her [Hanney’s] leadership, expertise, and collaborative approach have been invaluable, and we’re thrilled to recognize her contributions and look forward to her continued impact now as VP, Deputy General Counsel.

In other news, the tribal operator’s Mohegan Sun property recently became the site of yet another high-profile casino jackpot win. The win happened at the Casino of the Sky and Casino of the Earth at Mohegan Sun, where an extremely lucky player won a $374,884 payout playing blackjack.
