The Philippines has intensified its fight against cybercrime through a new partnership between the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
According to a news report in Luzon, Undersecretary Renato “Aboy” Paraiso of the CICC stated the purpose of the two agencies’ working together would be to create a safer online environment for Filipinos by sharing resources and expertise.
The CICC and NBI collaborate on their efforts so that they can stay ahead of the cybercriminals using proactive methods to provide effective online protection for people in the Philippines. In addition to providing a more efficient method of conducting technology-based investigations, by collaborating with the NBI the CICC also hopes to expedite the exchange of information among law enforcement agencies and other related organizations, and improve their ability to identify and prosecute offenders of cyber crimes.
Furthermore, the effort will continue to lead to a more coordinated effort by the government to combat cyber-crime throughout the Philippines.
Paraiso said the collaborative efforts between the agencies would provide new opportunities to improve the public safety of Filipinos online as well as provide better protection to the people in the Philippines who use the internet. Several avenues for creating a collective response to ever-increasing digital threats are being explored by the two agencies through their new partnership.
This agreement reflects the seriousness of the Philippine government’s enforcement of cyber-crime offenses as a priority.
