The Powerball jackpot has reached another major milestone as it topped the $600 million dollars mark. With both the Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots now standing at impressive sums, players in America are eagerly anticipating the next big win.
Powerball Jackpot Continues to Grow
The Wednesday Powerball drawing had participants playing for a $570 million prize with a cash option of $253 million. However, it seems that no player had the sufficient foresight required to match all six winning numbers and take this mouth-watering prize home. At the same time, no one succeeded in matching the five white numbers for a seven-figure Match 5 prize either.
The winning Powerball numbers drawn on July 22 were as follows: 4, 5, 22, 50 and 58, plus the red Powerball 1. The Power Play multiplier, on the other hand, was 3x.
While no one won a seven-figure sum or higher, three Power Play players made the most out of the 3x multiplier and took home prizes of $150,000 after matching four white numbers and the Powerball. Twelve others matched the same numbers, but did not have the Power Play feature active, thus taking home $50,000 each.
As mentioned, the Powerball prize has now reached the important milestone of $600 million. The cash option a hypothetical winner can look forward to is $266.4 million.
Several Players Won Big from Powerball
In other Powerball news, the previous drawing awarded not one but two Match 5 prizes of a million dollars. The mouth-watering wins were scored by ticket holders in the states of Michigan and Colorado, Powerball officials confirmed.
This came shortly after two more winners won life-changing $1 million sums. These earlier prizes were secured by players in Arizona and Massachusetts.
In the meantime, the Powerball game just launched in the UK as part of Allwyn’s lottery modernization plans. Whereas Australia has its own version of the game, the UK will play alongside the USA for a common jackpot. While British players will pay more for each ticket, this would be the first time they can play for an uncapped jackpot.
Elsewhere, Powerball winner James Farthing has been indicted for felony wanton endangerment and misdemeanor leaving the scene of a crash.
