Scientific Games Names Schneider Interim CEO as McHugh Prepares to Step Down  

Scientific Games announced that it is on the lookout for a new CEO ahead of the retirement of its current one. This comes several months after the company parted ways with its previous CFO.

Schneider Temporarily Takes the Reins

On August 3, Scientific Games confirmed that Pat McHugh, the company’s current chief executive officer, is set to step down from the role. McHugh, who spent some 20 years with Scientific Games, will officially retire on September 8, the company clarified.

McHugh is a lottery veteran with some 30 years of experience in this sector. He joined Scientific Games in 2004, initially serving as VP for North American Operations. He occupied a variety of other positions before his ascension to the CEO role in 2022.

During his time with the company, McHugh worked hard to expand its global lottery business, improve its portfolio of lottery games, and bolster its tech stack.

After his retirement, McHugh will assume the position of vice chair. In this position, he will ensure a seamless transition of responsibilities.

In its release, the company said that its board of directors has named Kevin Schneider as interim CEO, effective upon McHugh’s retirement. Schneider joined the company’s board of directors in 2022 and, since March 2026 has served as vice chair. He boasts some 35 years of leadership experience and has been trusted to support Scientific Games during this transition.

At the same time, Scientific Games confirmed that it has initiated the search for a permanent CEO.

The Leadership Believes in a Smooth Transition of Responsibilities

McHugh commented on the leadership change, saying that he believes that the future of Scientific Games is bright. He also thanked everyone who supported him during his time with the company.

Announcing my retirement now allows the Board to conduct an open search for the best leader to guide the company through its next phase of growth while ensuring a smooth leadership transition. Scientific Games has an experienced leadership team, talented employees and a bright future, and I look forward to seeing it continue serving lotteries around the world.

Schneider also commented on the matter, thanking the board for its confidence in him. He said that he is looking forward to his time as interim CEO.

David Nowak, the company’s chair, thanked McHugh for his contributions to the company and wished him the best. At the same time, Nowak expressed full confidence in Schneider’s ability to lead the company during this period of transition.
