Daniel Negreanu made his third online World Series of Poker (WSOP) final table this week, and he did it (again) in what might be his best game — Pot-Limit Omaha. But, like the previous two final tables, he couldn’t close it out.
The GGPoker ambassador attempted to make it third time’s a charm on Friday in the $5,000 High Roller Bounty PLO, a WSOP bracelet event with 378 entries. He entered the session fourth in chips with eight players remaining at 35 big blinds. Yigal Papi, an Israeli player, held a commanding chip lead at 134 big blinds.
Negreanu, who won his eighth bracelet this summer in a PLO event, was attempting to win his first online bracelet and to become just the 10th player ever to win at least nine bracelets, joining the likes of Phil Hellmuth and the most recent members of the exclusive club, Shaun Deeb and Benny Glaser. But he’d need to spin it up against a table full of experienced pros.
How the Final Table Played Out
Negreanu started the final table off strong with pocket aces holding against Markus Ristola, who turned a monster draw and missed on the river. Ristola lost all of his chips in the hand and was eliminated in seventh place for $33,074.
But “DNegs” would soon pick up pocket aces and receive a less favorable outcome. Anatoly Zlotnikov also had two aces among his four hole cards, and he hit a flush to scoop the pot, sending Negreanu back to where he began the final table.
The downward momentum soon continued for the Poker Hall of Famer. Negreanu hit two pair but lost his entire stack to Blaz Zerjav, who flopped a set. That was all she wrote for Negreanu, who missed out on winning a bracelet at a final table for the third time in just five days. He had to settle for sixth place and $43,641 and about $15,000 worth of bounties.
Negreanu is livestreaming all his WSOP Online bracelet chasing action on GGPoker while visiting Vancouver, Canada. He’s made three deep runs already, but hasn’t been able to close one out. His best look at a win came in the $25,000 High Roller Championship, a No-Limit Hold’em event. But he took a brutal bad beat against the chip leader with just five players left for a monster all-in pot.
Papi still had a sizable chip lead at the time of publishing. First place will pay $132,297 plus bounties and a bracelet.
