Don’t Miss Any of the 2022 GUKPT Coventry Main Event Action

Poker News

Being sent to Coventry is an idiom used in England that means you are deliberately ostracising someone, usually by ignoring them and not talking to them. We’re sending the PokerNews Live Reporting team to Coventry in March and they’ll be more than talking, they’ll be bringing you all the coverage from the 2022 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) Coventry Main Event.

The Grosvenor G Casino Coventry is located inside the Coventry Building Society Arena, formerly the Ricoh Arena, in the Midlands. The casino will be brimming with poker talent from February 24 through March 6 because the GUKPT is in town.

GUKPT and Coventry have a long relationship. Coventry is, after all, the home of the record-breaking Goliath tournament. However, there have been four GUKPT Coventry Main Events since the tour began back in 2007.

Team Grosvenor’s Swift: “The GUKPT Is a Prestigious Tour”

Stuart Rutter won the inaugural GUKPT Coventry Main Event during Season 4. Rutter outlasted 141 opponents in the £1,070 buy-in tournament and returned home with £41,910.

It was Julian Thew who triumphed in Coventry the following season. Thew defeated now-Team Grosvenor Pro Richard Trigg heads-up to get his hands on £42,740. The reigning champion Rutter managed to finish fifth.

Season 6, in 2012, saw Martyn Frey walk away with the £36,610 top prize.

GUKPT Coventry went on a hiatus for several years as it made way for the Goliath events. However, it returned during last years’ Season 15 with a £750 buy-in Main Event. The Main Event attracted 607 runners and Steve Jelinek came out on top to scoop an impressive £105,050. Last year’s Coventry Main Event was the biggest ever in terms of prize pool and first-place money.

Career Best Score as Timothy Chung Wins Biggest Ever GUKPT London Main Event

Timothy Chung took down the £1,250 buy-in Main Event after leaving 701 opponents in his wake. Chung reeled in a career-best score worth £185,560.
