‘Jungleman’ Releases Book on the Ruthless World of High-Stakes Poker

Jungleman Poker Book

Dan “Jungleman” Cates has become the latest poker star to release a book on his high-stakes poker experiences.

The book titled Pokerworld, written by Rick Maese, was published by Matt Holt Books and distributed by Simon & Schuster. This isn’t a poker strategy book. Instead, it is a candid memoir, with high-stakes storytelling and hard lessons learned by one of poker’s most interesting and talented pros.

Pokerworld, available at online retailers such as Target and Amazon for $28, is 208 pages of storytelling on how poker trains players to make decisions with incomplete information, downswings, and why discipline and emotional control matter more than bravado, and not just when it comes to poker — Jungleman’s book connects poker to business and life.

Maese, a Washington Post journalist, takes readers on a journey through Jungleman’s early online poker days to private games around the world.

Cates is a two-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner, having won the prestigious $50,000 Poker Players Championship in back-to-back years (2021 and 2022). He has over $19 million in The Hendon Mob live tournament cashes. But he’s more known for his cash game prowess and dominance of high-stakes mixed games.

The 36-year-old Maryland native, last year, won three consecutive heads-up matches against Ossi “Monarch” Ketola to win $15 million, the largest livestreamed win in poker history. He is one of the most respected high-stakes cash games players ever.

Jungleman isn’t the only poker legend to release a book on high-stakes poker in recent months. Garrett Adelstein, the longtime Los Angeles cash game crusher, released his book, Beneath the Cards, in September.

Adelstein, one of the most popular livestream players ever, wrote about his wildest gambling stories, and of course the infamous “Jack-Four” scandal where he accused Robbi Jade Lew of cheating him out of a six-figure pot on Hustler Casino Live four years ago.

Pokerworld preorders are now available.
