Larry Frank Charity Event Brings CSOP to Florida During WPT SHRPS

Poker News

The latest Charity Series of Poker (CSOP) event took place this week, but this one wasn’t in Las Vegas. While many CSOP events take place at popular Vegas spots like Palms and South Point, CSOP Event #62: Larry Frank Memorial Charity Event took place in Hollywood, Florida during the World Poker Tour (WPT) Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown.

The event in South Florida benefitted the region’s Make-A-Wish Foundation and its efforts to “create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.” A poster for the event notes that “research shows a wish can give kids the strength to fight against and even overcome a critical illness.”

CSOP Goes South

The $300 buy-in charity event, which took place on April 18, kicked off with a reception in the Grand Ballroom at Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood that included a silent auction as attendees conversed over cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.

There was no mistaking where the event took place as the auction items included a signed Miami Dolphins helmet and signed Miami Heat and Jacksonville Jaguars jereys.

The namesake tournament honored Larry Frank, a member of the Seminole Tribe of Florida who worked in gaming for more than 25 years before his passing in 2021.

“He’s a very special man to me, he did a lot for poker in South Florida,” WPT Executive Tour Director Matt Savage said during the event. “This room would not be where it is today without Mr. Frank.”

The tournament, which also took place in the Grand Ballroom, featured a few WPT faces like Vince Van Patten and Brad Owen, as well as industry veteran Tony Burns and CSOP founder Matt Stout. Stout finished third for $1,500 and that money went straight to the Make-A-Wish foundation.

Meanwhile, the trophy and top prize of $5,000 went to Stewart Chantler, who also won a seat into the $3,500 buy-in Championship event, which is currently underway with just three tables remaining.
