The Ladies Crush on Latest Episode of Hellmuth’s Home Game; Cates & Deeb Get Destroyed

Hellmuth’s Home Game presented by Poker Night in America (PNIA) and sponsored by BetRivers is once again airing on CBS Sports on Monday nights.

The nationally televised show, which was filmed at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada, is unique in that there is no commentary. Instead, the show is carried by table talk from Phil Hellmuth alongside a cast of fellow pros and friends in an intimate, relaxed cash game setting.

PokerNews watched Episode 33, a continuation from the week prior, and compiled a recap of some of the biggest hands and interesting storylines.

Here’s how things stacked up at the start of the episode:

The game was played with $25/$50 blinds with a $50 big blind ante. Here’s a look at some of the biggest hands from the episode.

A River Three-Bet

In the first hand of the episode, Daniel “Jungleman” Cates raised to $500 from the hijack with the A♥K♣, and Jennifer Tilly called from the small blind holding the K♠Q♣. The rest of the players folded, and it was heads-up action to the flop, which came down Q♥7♠4♠.

Tilly led out for $600 with top pair, and Cates called to see the 2♦ turn, which went check-check. After the K♥ completed the board on the river, Tilly bet $1,300 with her two pair, and Cates raised to $6,000 after rivering top pair with top kicker.

Tilly didn’t take long to three-bet to $16,000, and Cates snap-folded his hand.

Xuan & Cates Collide

Action folded to Cates in the big blind, and he raised to $600 with the Q♠10♦ to put pressure on Xuan Liu, who had straddled to $100. The latter looked down at the A♠A♦ and three-bet to $1,800, which prompted Cates to four-bet to $4,000.

Xuan opted to five-bet small to $6,500, and Cates called to see a flop of 3♣8♥Q♣. Cates checked top pair, and Xuan continued for $3,500. Cates called and then checked the J♣ turn, which led to Xuan betting $4,000.

Cates called and then checked for a third time on the 8♠ river. Xuan moved all in to put the pressure on Cates, who had $8,375 behind.”

“I just don’t buy that you’re bluffing here,” Cates said before folding his hand. With that, Xuan claimed a pot worth $36,650.

Xuan Picks Off a Deeb Bluff

Erick Lindgren raised to $600 from the cutoff with the Q♥7♥, and Cates called from the small blind with the K♠J♣. Xuan came along from the big holding the K♦10♦ before Shaun Deeb three-bet to $3,000 out of the straddle with the A♦9♦.

Both Lindgren and Cates folded, but Xuan called to see the 2♠10♣3♦ flop, which gave her top pair. She check-called a bet of $1,600 and checked the J♦ turn, which gave both players a flush draw. Deeb, who had the better draw, bet $5,000 and Xuan called to see the Q♣ river.

Xuan checked her pair of tens and Deeb, who didn’t have a pair, bluffed at it by tossing in $12,500. Xuan thought for a good bit before calling and taking down a pot worth $45,650.

Hellmuth All In Against Cates

Hellmuth raised to $600 with the Q♠10♠ in the hijack, and Cates reraised to $2,100 with the 3♠3♣ in the small blind. Action folded back to Hellmuth, who called to see the 5♠4♠5♥ flop, which gave him a flush draw.

Cates moved all in and Hellmuth quickly called off his stack of $4,075 to create a $12,750 pot. The two agreed to run it twice, but Hellmuth came up short on the 9♦ turn and 3♥ runout on the first, which locked up half the pot for Cates.

On the second, the 2♥ turn was a brick for Hellmuth, but the A♠ river wasn’t as Hellmuth made his spade flush to chop it up.

Last Hand of the Episode

In the final hand of the episode, Cates was in the first of three straddles and had the 9♣5♣, which inspired him to raise to $1,300. Xuan called from the second straddle with the 6♥6♣ while Deeb folded from the third to make it heads-up action to the flop of 5♥7♠2♦.

Cares checked middle pair, and Xuan bet $800. The former called and then led out for $1,500 on the A♣ turn. The latter called and the J♥ completed the board on the river.

Cates returned to checking, and Xuan checked behind to claim the modest $7,725 pot.
