Two Players Win Four Tournaments in the Same Florida Poker Series

Raminder Singh Jean Laurent

Two players not named LeBron James won not one, not two, not three, but four titles in South Florida the past few weeks.

We’re talking about poker, not basketball, and more specifically, the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open, which wraps on Monday. Raminder Singh reminded his peers in Hollywood, Florida that he’s still the king of the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.

Singh, who entered the series last month one spot shy of a record 17 SHRP titles, put on quite a performance. But he wasn’t the only star of the show.

Singh, who has over $4 million in live tournament cashes recorded by The Hendon Mob, first took down the $400 Black Chip Bounty NLH/PLO Mix event for $7,015 and bounties, beating out 101 entrants.

That was his 17th title in SHRP events, tying the record. He became the sole record-holder when he chopped three ways the $300 Triple Stack Bounty No-Limit Hold’em, a tournament with 222 entries, for $6,385 plus bounties.

Singh extended his record with the title following a heads-up chop in the $300 Triple Stack No-Limit Hold’em. He received $8,374, the largest payout among the 151 entrants. Three titles wasn’t enough for the crusher who refers to himself as the “True Poker Amateur,” as he conquered the $1,100 DeepStack Turbo No-Limit Hold’em event outright for $10,978 on Aug. 7.

Singh didn’t just break the record for most SHRP titles during the SHRPO. He became the first to win four titles in the same SHRP series.

Singh was the only player to have ever won four titles in the same SHRP series for all of two days. Jean Laurent, who took a decade off tournament poker in the 2010s, also had a monster series.

Laurent, previously a two-time SHRP trophy winner, took down the $600 Limit Omaha 8 tournament for $11,755, an outright victory. The champ held the chip lead when heads-up play began in the $600 Mixed Pot-Limit Omaha event, and that is when the players agreed to chop. He won the trophy and $13,937 because he had the biggest stack.

A third victory came in the $600 Mixed Pot-Limit Omaha after a three-way deal, which paid Laurent $11,675. But the winning didn’t stop there for the South Florida resident. Laurent matched Singh’s record thanks to a six-way chop with the chip lead in the $400 DeepStack No-Limit Hold’em on Sunday, good for $15,367, the largest score among the 304 entrants.

The Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open concludes on Monday with the $5,300 SHRPO Championship, where Joe McKeehen, the 2015 WSOP Main Event champion, is looking for another major tournament win.
