Circa Sports has taken another step in its U.S. expansion after securing approval to operate sports betting in Arizona through a partnership with the San Juan Southern Paiute Tribe.
The Arizona Department of Gaming (ADG) announced (pdf) that it had allocated an event wagering operator license to Circa Sports Arizona LLC, which serves as the designee for the tribe. The approval makes Circa the latest company to enter Arizona’s regulated sports betting market and positions it to become the state’s 13th online sportsbook operator.
Arizona regulators opened a licensing application period between June 26 and July 10, 2026, seeking additional operators under the framework established when the state legalized sports betting in 2021. According to an ADG spokesperson, Circa Sports submitted the only application during that window and subsequently received approval on July 27.
The department stated that it will now work with the company on the remaining steps required before the sportsbook can begin accepting wagers in the state.
Arizona Market Adds Another Licensed Operator
Arizona law permits up to 20 event wagering operator licenses, with half reserved for tribal entities and the other half allocated to professional sports franchises. Through its agreement with the San Juan Southern Paiute Tribe, Circa Sports secured one of the tribal-designated opportunities.
The company joins a competitive market that already includes major operators such as FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, Fanatics Sportsbook, BetRivers, Bally Bet, Hard Rock Digital, bet365, Desert Diamond Mobile, theScore Bet, and betcris.
Several operators have exited the Arizona market in recent years. Sporttrade and Golden Nugget previously held licenses but are no longer active in the state. State regulators have also indicated that at least one additional operator connected to a professional sports franchise could still be added, while further tribal partnerships remain possible under the existing licensing structure.
The ADG noted that legal sports betting has generated substantial activity since launch. Since 2021, bettors in Arizona have placed approximately $35.3 billion in wagers. That activity has produced roughly $190.6 million in event wagering privilege fees for the state.
Circa Targets Early 2027 Launch
While the company has not announced a formal launch date, Circa Sports executives have outlined a projected timeline.
Jeffrey Benson, director of operations for Circa Sports, told said:
“We’re thrilled to have been allocated the Arizona event wagering license in partnership with the San Juan Southern Paiute Tribe. Circa Sports looks forward to offering Arizona bettors the same high-limit, transparent, customer-first experience we’ve built our reputation on. We’ll continue working closely with the Arizona Department of Gaming on the path to launch but are targeting go live in early 2027.”
If that schedule holds, Arizona will become the seventh state where Circa offers online sports betting. The operator currently has active online sportsbooks in Nevada, Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, and Missouri.
Missouri marked the company’s most recent expansion, with Circa launching there when the market opened on December 1, 2025. In that state, Circa and DraftKings received the first two sports betting licenses awarded by regulators. Circa also secured an untethered license in Missouri, allowing it to operate without sharing revenue with a market-access partner.
Expanding Presence in a Crowded Industry
The Arizona approval extends Circa’s reach into another established sports betting jurisdiction where many national operators already compete. Several of those companies are familiar rivals for Circa, as they face one another across multiple states.
Within Arizona’s tribal partnership structure, Circa becomes the sixth online sportsbook connected to a tribal nation. Other tribal-linked operators include bet365, Desert Diamond, Fanatics Sportsbook, Hard Rock Digital, and betcris.
The company is widely known for its Las Vegas sportsbook operations and for hosting large football handicapping contests, including Circa Sports Survivor. The contest recently reached 5,000 entries on August 1 and carries a guaranteed prize pool of $30 million.
For Arizona regulators, the latest license allocation represents another stage in the ongoing development of a market that has continued to grow since legalization. With Circa Sports now approved and preparing for launch, the number of online sportsbook options available to Arizona bettors is set to increase once again, while state officials continue to evaluate opportunities for additional operators under the framework that allows up to 20 licenses.
