The main thing most people worry about when reaching the Vegas Strip is how much money they’re willing to gamble and inevitably lose during their stay. The last thing on visitors’ minds is to worry about checking the bed for bedbugs.
Unfortunately, it’s a must, say experts. According to documents obtained by the Las Vegas Review Journal from the Southern Nevada Health District, not one, not two, but six major resorts on the Las Vegas Strip have confirmed isolated bedbug cases over the past two years after guest complaints.
Naming and Shaming
The disturbing confirmed cases involved well-known brands like Caesars Palace, Bellagio, Cosmopolitan, Resorts World, The Strat and Horseshoe Las Vegas.
The health district, however, received over 80 bedbug-related complaints involving Strip properties between 2024 and July 9, 2026, but only six investigations actually confirmed infestations.
In May 2025, Treasure Island and the Luxor were sued by four former guests who claimed they were attacked and bitten by bed bugs during their stays.
In each of the six confirmed resort cases, the affected rooms were immediately taken out of service and treated by professional pest control companies. Follow-up inspections later cleared the rooms before they were reopened to guests.
They Can Show Up Anywhere
According to Diego Rodriguez, a technical specialist and associate certified entomologist with Preventive Pest Control, bedbugs can appear in virtually any hotel regardless of its category.
He explained that during full hotel inspections it is not unusual to find the nasty pests in about 5 to 10% of rooms, although luxury hotels often see significantly lower rates of around 1 to 2%.
Rodriguez stressed that bedbugs are not a sign of poor cleanliness: “They will go with whoever they can hitch a ride with.
He also noted that the insects spread by traveling with luggage and personal belongings rather than because of unsanitary conditions.
Check the Room
For travelers, he recommends taking a few minutes to inspect the room before unpacking. Luggage should be placed on a rack, desk or bathroom counter instead of the bed.
Guests should examine mattress seams, bed skirts, box springs, headboards and upholstered furniture for live insects, black spotting or shed skins.
Bedbug bites usually appear on exposed skin such as the hands, neck or face, although Rodriguez noted that only about half of people develop visible bite reactions. He also emphasized there are no known cases of bedbugs transmitting diseases to humans.
