Australia: ACMA orders blocking of two more illegal gambling sites

Australia’s internet service providers have been asked to block Casea and Crown96 after investigations found the sites were operating in breach of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) said.

Website blocking is one of a range of enforcement options to protect Australians against illegal online gambling. Since the ACMA made its first blocking request in November 2019, 1,788 illegal gambling and affiliate websites have been blocked.

More than 230 illegal services have also withdrawn from the Australian market since the ACMA began enforcing new illegal online gambling rules in 2017.

The ACMA warned consumers that illegal gambling services may appear legitimate but are unlikely to provide important customer protections, putting users at risk of losing their money.

Australians can check whether a wagering service is licensed to operate in the country through the ACMA’s register.
