Kewadin Casinos is launching the next phase of a multimillion-dollar capital improvement program this summer, with projects planned across all five of its gaming properties in Michigan’s eastern and central Upper Peninsula over the next three years.
The upcoming work will include hotel renovations, RV park developments, food and beverage venue upgrades, and new entertainment and family-oriented amenities.
Kewadin Casinos has retained Integrated Designs Inc. to provide architecture and engineering services, while Gundlach Champion will continue serving as construction manager for the projects.
Property investments scheduled through 2027
At Kewadin Casino St. Ignace, guest room renovations and upgrades are scheduled to begin in fall 2026. The property is also set to add a new RV park with full hook-up services beginning in spring 2027.
Kewadin Casino Sault Ste. Marie is slated for several developments, including the demolition of the original casino and hotel complex known as the East Wing structure along Shunk Road beginning in fall or winter 2026. The property is also expected to add a sports bar featuring virtual game bays and a new waterpark with designated areas for children and adults, with construction on both projects scheduled to begin in summer 2027.
At Kewadin Manistique, a new RV park with full hook-up options is planned for summer 2026. Renovations to the property’s restaurant and bar are also planned, although a timeline has not yet been announced.
Kewadin Casino Christmas will receive enhancements to its RV park, including additional full hook-up options, beginning in summer 2026.
Meanwhile, Kewadin Casino Hessel is scheduled to undergo renovations to its bar and deli in fall 2026. Additional improvements to the property’s cabins and RV park, including 50-amp hook-up options, are planned, with timing yet to be announced.
“We understand that the needs of our guests have evolved over the years, and we are excited for the opportunity to evolve with them,” said Allen Kerridge, CEO of Kewadin Casinos. “These renovations are designed to enhance the guest experience in the areas guests value most, whether it is a family traveling to camp or a local resident looking for a great meal and a fun night out.”
“This next phase will allow us to better meet those needs by enhancing our RV park offerings, improving our hotel at Kewadin Casino St. Ignace and bringing more family-friendly experiences to Kewadin Casino Sault Ste. Marie with the only waterpark in Michigan’s eastern Upper Peninsula,” he added.
The latest phase follows several projects already completed under the improvement program, including a full interior and exterior renovation of the Kewadin Casino Sault Ste. Marie hotel tower, the addition of new dining concepts, and the construction of a new main casino entrance.
Owned and operated by the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, Kewadin Casinos operates five gaming properties across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The facilities collectively offer more than 2,000 slot machines, 26 table games, hotel accommodations, and dining venues.
