2026 FIFA World Cup Round 32

Egypt had a strong performance so far in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with the team overcoming New Zealand and drawing against both Iran and Belgium. Now, though, the team is heading against a new Oceanic contender – Australia, which is keen to advance in the tournament. It has a pretty decent chance to, but Egypt’s new found soccer acumen would definitely be a challenge to think carefully about.

Both Australia and Egypt Have Good Chances to Advance

Pinning which team may win could prove a tall order for the occasional soccer fan, when even the bookmakers seem to be giving fairly similar odds to both squads, although there is some room for speculation.

Egypt’s explosive performance in the tournament now has the country as clearly the favorite at (-140). There is a good reason why this is happening. Mohamed Salah, a favorite of the English and Egyptians, as well as millions of people worldwide.

Salah’s experience in the Premier League and his inspiring career has achieved just that – it has made Egyptian players dream, and emulate him, and it has shown in the Group Stage, with the team fighting tooth and nail against some of the most accomplished teams in the competition.

Trezeguet and Mostafa Ziko have both shined so far in the tournament, and Egypt hardly has just these players to rely on when it comes to the quality of its team. Mahmoud Saber showed his worth against Iran, for example, and Emam Ashour scored against Belgium in both highly-contested games.

Egypt has demonstrated that its backline plays like an iron curtain, with few shots directed at the goalie, while posing an ever-present challenge for opponents by counter-attacking and launching strong forays into the enemy’s half.

What about Australia? Australia has actually played a strong game so far – triumphing over Turkey with 2-0, and surprisingly losing to the United States. Socceros actually won against the team that USMNT couldn’t defeat, although it was a slightly lucky situation in which the Europeans secured their 3-2 victory, so there is that.

The team also drew against Paraguay, which was defeated by USMNT. So, yes – Australia may have a little more questionable performance, but its opening salvo against Turkey really showed that when the Aussies want to, they can be a formidable force.

Nestory Irankunda and Connor Metcalfe have been putting in the hard work for the Oceanic nation, and they will have to come through once again, but Egypt’s offensive will stretch the Australians’ ability to defend and attack, most likely resulting in the Egyptian squad sending the Aussie home.

Pick: Egypt to Advance (-140)
