Michigan court has issued an order to Kalshi to stop advertising online sport betting in the state.
The action follow the decisions of last week according to US District Court ruling which granted Attorney General’s motion to remand the lawsuit back to state court.
Earlier, lawsuit by Attorney General Dana Nessel was filed. Nessel highlighted Michigan’s gambling laws, which are created to protect state’s consumers from unlicensed and illegal betting ads.
Attorney General Dana Nessel stated:
I am proud of the attorneys in my office who not only kept this case in state court but also secured an order protecting residents as this litigation moves forward. We remain committed to enforcing a level playing field for all gambling platforms in Michigan and ensuring that companies cannot evade accountability or exploit consumers under the guise of a prediction market.
Michigan residents allegedly can wager on sports through its system in addition to using its financial systems and making financial transactions. The complaint highlight that these are unlicensed betting by a Michigan resident. Kalshi has been accused of operating in Michigan without holding a license authorized by the Michigan Gaming Control Board.
After the lawsuit was filed in state court, Kalshi attempted to get it moved into federal court. A federal court granted the State of Michigan’s Motion to Remand the case back to Ingham County Circuit Court.
A temporary restraining prder has been issued against Kalshi to not operate or advertise its online sports wagering system in Michigan until a further order of this Court is granted determining how this matter should be resolved in the pending litigation.
